Newscuttings on Africa and South East Asia

The principal part of the collection is a set of thirteen scrapbooks of newscuttings relating to East Africa, particularly Kenya and Tanganyika. Nigerian Troops in the Congo, circa 1960

Scope and Contents

A collection of photographs, measuring 240 x 180 mm, probably by official photographers, of the air lift of Nigerian troops to the Congo as part of the United Nations force (ONUC). The first of these went in November 1960: those serving in Kivu Province, where Kindi is situated, were the 5th Battalion and the Field Squadron. Nigerian troops served in the Congo until 1964.
